Emerald Ash Borer treatment phase

The City has begun the treatment phase for Emerald Ash Borer (EAB), an invasive beetle that is killing ash trees throughout southwestern Ontario, including Oshawa.

High profile ash trees on street boulevards located west of the Oshawa Creek and around the Lakeview Park area are receiving injections of TreeAzin, a naturally-occurring compound. Tree injections will significantly reduce the damage caused by EAB and will help save Oshawa’s ash trees.

Property owners are responsible for caring for ash trees on their own property and are encouraged to seek the services of a qualified arborist to assess the condition of their trees.

EAB is an invasive beetle that can be spread when people move materials, such as firewood, branches, nursery stock, chips or other ash wood. The Canadian Food Inspection Agency has established Durham Region as a quarantine area, prohibiting the movement of firewood and ash material outside of the Region.
